The Madisonville Garden Market is a collaboration between Sidestreams and Lighthouse Community School (LCS) developed to increase healthy food access in the community and teach people “where food comes from,” as customers personally harvest the food they purchase.
Hours of operation for this “pick and pay market” are Thursdays from 4:30-7pm and Saturdays from 10:30am-1pm from May to September. The market is located at 6001 Chandler St. under the shelter in the Lighthouse Community School Garden.
The market accepts Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and offers Produce Perks, an incentive program that allows SNAP customers to match dollar for dollar their purchases on fresh fruits and vegetables. This allows low-income shoppers to stretch their dollar further while buying healthy food.
The market sells produce and eggs all raised on site by youth and volunteers. Basically, Sidestreams manages the growing and marketing operations, while LCS employees youth from Lighthouse Youth Services and the neighborhood. It is a job training program where young people gain customer service experience, while sharpening math skills. They learn how to harvest and sell vegetables and eggs, as well as garden products like custom made extra strong and tall tomato cages.
Here is pricing information, which changes based on availability and seasonality. We’re also proud to be listed in the CORV guide of local farmer’s markets.
